ANDS Data Commons Boot Camp
A five day intensive workshop to be held at the Australian National University in Canberra
Dates: June 7 to 11, 2010 and August 9 to 13, 2010
Introduction and context
The development of the Australian Research Data Commons is designed to enhance the effectiveness of modern research. During 2010-2011, ANDS is contracting a significant number of universities and other research institutions to undertake programs designed to support their contribution to the Commons.
Integral to the success of these programs are the skills and understanding related to data management and sharing in the institutional context. ANDS is, therefore, inviting one member of the staff of institutions receiving contract funding through its Seeding the Commons Program to attend an intensive five-day training program. This will equip these staff to take a lead role in their organisation in supporting ANDS funded projects, in passing on their skills and in enhancing the institution’s eResearch support capacity.
Scope
This training program will focus on expanding Australia’s skill base in supporting eResearch across the institution and on participation in the Australian Research Data Commons.
-
Day One will cover eResearch, the Australian Research Data Commons, the data curation continuum and institutional models for supporting eResearch.
-
Day Two will cover national frameworks to support eResearch and the Australian Research Data Commons — NCRIS, ANDS, ARCS, NCI, the legal and regulatory environment — as well as policy and legal settings such as Gov 2.0 and intellectual property.
-
Day Three will cover data management and data management planning, metadata for research and metadata stores.
-
Day Four will cover metadata sharing and management.
-
Day Five will wrap up with creating a marketing plan and looking forward.
Who should attend
Those attending the Boot Camp are probably involved with an ANDS project in a hands-on capacity and have the capacity to transfer the knowledge gained back into the institution.
Please note that each institution is limited to one attendee, at one or other of the two program dates. Anyone wishing to attend the Boot Camp should enquire about their institution’s proposed participation through their local ANDS contact.
Cost
There is no charge to attend the Boot Camp.
